Chinese Manjhaa : A silent Killer of Youth and all in India

Health Around the Globe CHINESE MANJHA CHINESE MANJHA, or tangus, an abrasive string used to fly kites, the silent killer, a burgeoning threat in society, is made of synthetic material or nylon rather than cotton used in traditional manjhas, and then treated with glass and metal to make them sharper Flying Kite is a nuisance already responsible for causing numerous deaths by falling from height hitting with obstacles, kids running after/ flying these kites and getting injured severally. Chinese Manjha, is coated in crushed glass, metal powder, nylon, synthetic material instead of cotton fabric causing accidents by cutting the skin of humans, birds and animals. All rooftop garden is also distorted by these kite flyers due to Manjha. Mostly, moving objects including open unprotected livings-Materials-vehicles, travelling bikers, travel protruding in open sunroof cars, birds, animals all are in the reach of this killer Manjha Thread. Only way remains are to prohibit use of this synthetic manjha and to prevent satisfying ones’ greed of always being a winner, however loosing on safety of people and bringing risk to the community. Central Government & State governments has framed guidelines to guide citizens and to prevent production of synthetic Manjha i.e., becoming a big disastrous nuisance. What regulations exists in India? Hon’ble NGT order dated 11.07.20217 in the matter of Execution application No. 06/2020 in OA 384 of 2016... there shall be a total ban on the Manjha or thread for kite flying which is made up of nylon or any synthetic material and/ or coated with synthetic substance and is non-biodegradable…..[1,2,3]. Even Delhi High Court, in August 2022, directed police to keep a check on the manufacturing and selling of Chinese Manjha [1].
